FRODE ØVERLI (NO)
Frode Øverli is the key mover of the new Scandinavian wave of comics. Whereas Scandinavian papers used to solely rely on American comics, all of this changed when Pondus entered the scene exactly 20 years ago. With a completely hilarious set of characters, revolving around the soccer enthusiast Pondus and his family, Pondus soon grew to be the most popular comic in Scandinavia of all times.
Pondus has been translated into 14 languages and is today on print in around 130 papers, magazines and online sites in and outside of Scandinavia. The Norwegian Pondus magazine is alone read by more than half a million readers. And Sweden's most prestigious comic prize - Stora Ponduspriset - bears its name.
